What Exactly is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
In truth, the buttock lift isn’t a true lift, but rather a fat transfer augmentation to create a better shape by adding volume to the area. In this procedure, fat is removed from other areas of the body, usually the abdomen, waist, hips, or thighs, and then processed and reinjected into the buttocks. Perhaps because this technique originated in South America, it has since become known as the Brazilian Butt Lift or BBL. This procedure’s popularity stems partly from its great adaptability to serve so many body shapes, sizes, and especially patient goals. Shape is more important to many of Dr. Hubbard’s patients, rather than size and the shaping ability is profound.
A Brazilian Butt Lift can help:
- add volume
- enhance the roundness
- create an illusion of a lift by adding more volume to the upper part of the butt
- suctioning the waist removes love handles and strongly accentuates the buttock changes
The Brazilian Butt Lift is actually a two-part surgical procedure, both of which involve truly artistic sculpting, always striving for the most beautiful curves. Prior to surgery, there is a planning session where Dr. Hubbard carefully strategizes his approach, unique to each patient. Then there is a marking appointment 1-3 days before surgery for further discussion and planning, along with placement of surgical marks.
Part 1:
In the beginning of surgery, fat is harvested from other parts of the body using liposuction, which also enhances shape in those areas. Usually several small, well-hidden incisions are made to access the donor areas. The fat removed via liposuction is then processed and purified in the operating room.
Part 2:
This final step of the procedure involves the injection of the patient’s own fat back into the buttocks, following the carefully designed plans for location and amount. This final shaping process is based on years of experience and artistic judgement. Because safety is first and foremost during all procedures, Dr. Hubbard uses ultrasound guidance, the latest advancement in fat grafting for BBL. Once the appropriate amount of fat is injected, the patient is awakened, and an elastic garment is placed with foam padding. Afterwards, patients will experience swelling and bruising. Swelling will subside gradually over months with most bruising resolved in weeks. The final shape and size of the area will be apparent after four months.
