Face lift VS Neck Lift: Which is Right For You?
In today’s world of online platforms like Zoom, Facetime, and Instagram, changes in the face and neck have become more noticeable and it can be bothersome to view age-related volume loss, lines, wrinkles and folds up close. Face lifts and neck lifts have certainly gained popularity in recent years and while both procedures can assist in rejuvenating your appearance, many people ask: What’s the difference and which one is right for me?
What are the differences?
A face lift corrects the mid to lower portion of the face which includes sagging cheeks, a loss of definition in the jawline, drooping jowls, and deep lines and wrinkles around your mouth. The incisions are made in front of the ears extending into the hairline. The skin is then pulled up to and behind the ears to smooth the cheeks and lower face.
Try this at home: Place your fingers in front of the middle of the ear and push your skin upward and back. This will help you mimic somewhat the look you’ll get from a face lift. Of course, the fingers pull much stronger than a face lift but that is good since it is much more natural.
A neck lift focuses more on the lower area from the chin to the collarbone, tightening the skin beneath the chin and jawline, making the neck have a smoother appearance. The procedure can help correct a “turkey neck” (excess skin that gathers above the throat) and a double chin (bloating in the upper neck that distorts the profile). A neck lift involves an incision behind the ear and usually beneath the chin.
Try this at home: Place your forefingers below the angle of the jaw and push upward and back. Doing so can give you an idea about what a neck lift can do for you as far as the up and down bands. As for the crepe skin and horizontal lines, it will exaggerate what a neck lift can accomplish.
