This woman in her early fifties from North Carolina underwent gastric bypass may years ago and lost a very large amount of weight. She first came to me for a consultation five years ago because she wanted an abdominoplasty to address the large amount of sagging skin which often caused a rash beneath it. Unfortunately, we could not perform her tummy tuck at that time because our extensive preoperative testing revealed that her protein level was not adequate for safe healing. With some medical and dietary changes, she was able to improve her protein level to an excellent range. Five years after our initial discussion, she safely underwent abdominoplasty with no muscle tightening She had 8.2 pounds of skin and fat removed, as well as liposuction of the mons area. Despite the significant amount of excess skin, we were able to design her scar to be easily concealed. She is very happy with the results. More importantly, she realizes that although she did not want to delay her procedure, it was the safest plan for her.
