This woman in her mid-thirties traveled from out of state to meet with me concerning her post-pregnancy contour. She was not happy with the large amount of loose skin and stretch marks on her stomach. She was also concerned about the deflated look of her breasts. After a thorough discussion and exam, we decided her best result would be to have both a tummy tuck and a breast augmentation with a lift to help the sagging of her breast. She wanted to remove a large amount of abdominal skin and tighten her muscle. Often, an abdominoplasty cannot completely remove all of the stretched skin but can remove a significant amount and the stretch marks that remain are usually less noticeable. Because safety is a top priority, I recommended that she have the breast augmentation with lift one week prior to the abdominoplasty. You can see remnants of our scar management program following abdominoplasty. We have our patients put some light tape over the scar for several months. Here we see her 4 months after surgery and the tape that she had decided to use an extra month had just been removed for the photos leaving some elastic along the fine scars. Notice her muscle is greatly tightened although it is completely functional and has every bit as much strength as previously. She no longer has to intentionally pull her stomach in, it remains flat even when relaxed. She is very pleased that her stretch marks are much less noticeable now.
