This 30-year-old Chesapeake Virginia patient underwent breast augmentation with gel implants in another city five years ago. She is disappointed that her implants never settled to a more natural level. We discussed performing a capsulotomy procedure which is lowering the implants by opening the pocket. Reviewing her records, I found she had a type of gel implant that had a much higher rupture rate, in fact twice as high as other brands. I explained that although her implants were only five years old, with such a high rupture rate at 10 years it would be beneficial to exchange them for a longer lasting, more reliable gel implant. She exchanged her implants with capsulotomies which means lowering the implants by opening the pocket below. She is very happy with her soft, symmetric, and more natural result.
