This 44-year-old Virginia Beach man came for a consultation following a significant weight loss. Although he was happy with his new body size, he felt that his face had lost fullness. This created considerable hollowing and gaunting that is normally associated with aging. To regain a more youthful appearance, I suggested that we plump his face by harvesting fat from his abdomen and transferring it to his face. Fat grafting was performed on the orbital rims, medial cheeks and nasolabial folds. In these photos (taken without a flash to emphasize the contours of the face), you can see hollowing in various areas in front view and especially in the oblique view. The oblique view, taken with the patient turned at a 45-degree angle, is most effective at demonstrating the extreme hollowing and the dramatic results of the fat injections. Unless the patient gains or loses a considerable amount of weight, these results will be lasting.
