This 46-year-old woman from Chesapeake met with me in consultation to discuss concerns about her aging face. She explained to me which areas of her face she wanted improvement with, and when we look at her “before” photo, we can easily see the sagging of her brows, cheeks and neck that were her major concerns. With most patients of this age, we see youthful facial plumpness beginning to fade, leaving behind hollowed or gaunted areas, most noticeable in this patient’s under-eye area and along her nasolabial folds and marionette lines. By restoring some of this lost volume to the face, a more youthful appearance is attained. Restoring facial volume is best done through fat grafting, one of the greatest advances to facial surgery in a very long time. Volume restored using this technique can last for many years, much of it forever. With careful planning, fat is only injected where it is most needed and will give the most natural result. It is a wonderful complement to other facial procedures, such as a facelift, because restoring volume cannot be effectively addressed with a facelift. This patient had fat injected to the areas around her eyes, nasolabial folds, lips, the area in front of the jowl, and along the angle of her jaw to create a better jaw line. This patient also had a short scar brow lift with weakening of the frown lines at the same time.
This patient underwent brow lift, face lift, and fat grafting. To view a closeup of her brow lift results, please visit Case 282 in the brow lift photo gallery.
